Our Purpose is to serve by providing clothing,
free and with no obligation, to those in need in our community.

The Agape Clothes Closet is open the last Friday of each month from 9 a.m. to 12:00 noon. We are located on the church grounds at 850 Lillian Dean, Buchanan Dam. Our patrons are invited to take as many items of clothing as they need, free of charge.

Clothing is donated by our wonderful church family and others in the community. We also accept donations of bed linens, towels, and small appliances. These items are distributed to victims of fires and other disasters. We were able to help two such families in a year.

When we have more donations than we have room for we contact Br. Thomas of Primerea Iglasia Church in Granite Shoals. He makes missionary trips to Mexico where he distributes the clothing.

If anyone has an emergency they may contact Carolyn Laxson at
(512) 793-9026.

Clothes Closet History

In 1991 a church member, Merle Bishop, visited a church in Colorado that had a clothes closet. She came away with a vision for Buchanan West to start a clothing ministry. She and other ladies of the church began asking for donations. The first committee was Merle Bishop, Margaret Hiestand, Polly McDade, Sally Smith, Ida McNab, Effie McAlpine and Marie. So began this God ordained ministry.

In Feb. 2001 the closet was closed due to lack of space but was reopened in early 2002. The ladies serving on the Clothes Closet committee at this time are pictured above.
